Charlton Heston stars as Judah Ben-Hur, a Jewish prince betrayed by a friend.

"We keep you alive to serve this ship. So row well...and live." From royalty to slavery - Judah is sentenced to the galleys for a crime he did not commit.

Judah saves the life of his ruthless master, Roman general Quintus Arius (Jack Hawkins).

Love hurts - a newly-zealous Judah, filled with hatred for his Roman enemies, mocks the affection of his faithful sweetheart Esther (Haya Harareet).

"Well, Judah...this is the day!" The most famous action sequence in the history of cinema - the great chariot race between Judah Ben-Hur and his former best friend and now greatest enemy, the young Roman consul Messala (Stephen Boyd).

Racer triumphant - Judah gets the laurel crown amidst wild cheers from the hometown crowd. "You are their one true god," Pontius Pilate says wryly, "for the time being!"
