Leslie Howard in one of his favorite roles - as Professor Henry Higgins, English language lover and woman hater.

 

Professor Higgins takes snobbish interest in the disheveled appearance and English pronunciation of flower seller Eliza Doolittle - a magnificent first major screen appearance for Dame Wendy Hiller!

 

"Have a chocolate, Eliza!" The professor tempts the poor girl with innocent yet irresistible bribes into his experiment. The goal: To pass her off as a lady at a grand reception!

 

Professor Hill takes advice from housekeeper Mrs. Pearce (Jean Cadell) with his characteristic (lack of) graciousness and patience.

 

Pupil and teacher have quite a headache on their hands preparing Eliza for her debut.

 

The results of Prof. Higgins' experiment on Eliza have extended to her ne'er-do-well father (Wilfrid Lawson), who nows views himself as a reluctant stooge of middle-class morality after the professor's meddling, much to the amusement of Higgins' mother (Marie Lohr).

 

Eliza forgets everything she's learned and flies at Professor Higgins, claws extended!
