1966-1968

The Heartthrob:

DAVID JONES

"I am standing up."

Mad Molly's
TEENY TINY MONKEES CHARACTER BIO

"DAVY"

His full name is:
David Thomas Jones

When and where he was born:
December 30, 1945
Manchester, England

Also known as:
"Monkee # 4"
"Dynamite Davy Jones"
"Muscles the Mauler"
"The Manchester Marauder"
"The Manchester Midget Greenie"

With his soulful, star-twinkling eyes and moptopped waifish charisma mixed with the scrappiness of a street punk and That Accent, Davy is the pin-up boy of the group. Impulsive and big-hearted, he usually gets the others into trouble by trying to help others or simply by falling for girls at the wrong time. Because Davy digs girls. And girls dig Davy. So you do the math.

This wayward mascot is the youngest of the group and the longest way from home, which sets off the other fellows' protective streak. Cocksure, aggressive, and physically fit as he is, it doesn't hurt to have three older, bigger pals as his mates to help him out of scrapes...although the clever lad is known to be able to talk his way around trouble when faced by a sizable opponent that no four-part combination of boy band power can take down physically!

The diminutive dynamo is also the recipient of offers for many grand opportunities - as husband to the daughter of a fabulously wealthy sheik, or as special guest of a young and pretty queen whose evil guardian he's helped vanquish, or as inheritor of an incredibly luxurious estate back in Merry Olde England, among other things. All such offers are appreciated by Davy, but they are refused, for his loyalty first and foremost is to his mates and their collective goal of pop music fame 'n' fortune.

His contribution to the band, aside from his boyish animal magnetism, is mostly as front-man percussionist with rare forays onto bass guitar and drums. He flourishes the maracas with the force of a hyperactive school bell ringer, and boy, does he beat an aggressive tambourine! (It's because he's short, I know.)

His solo performance style displays a combination of pop idol savvy, classic Broadway, traditional English music hall cheer, and the theatrics and moves reflecting the influence of his idol, Anthony Newley. He's a smooth serenader who adores the adulation of his fans and gives it right back to them in the form of dynamic displays on stage and screen for their pleasure...

...like the finger-snapping, undulating, side-shuffle slide step that is The Davy Dance!

(Makes me wonder where Axl Rose copped some of his snaky moves!)
