TEENY TINY MONKEES TEAM ANALYSES

The Brain Trust:

Mike & Micky

A common goal can do wonders in establishing friendly cohesion between two highly-differing personalities. As strange as it may seem for a cucumber-cool Texan and a La-La Land freak-out to be partners in a team leadership effort, the ruddering of the Good Ship Monkee to the paradise of fame and fortune takes the boys through strange waters, with Mike and Micky serving as masters to confuse the forces that believe they deal with ordinary mortal young men malleable to their nefarious plans.

Mike's keenly-considered, down-home, common sense sagacity is usually enough to handle scrapes, but in the face of situations where logical solutions fall flat, Micky steps in with mad science and on-the-spot lunacy which reveals its own funky logic.

Sure, Davy may hop into the limelight of heroism with the grab of a sword and at times his clever wit keeps him from getting bashed, and even way-out Peter at times manages to baffle the badniks with bull.

But the Grease Monkees that keep the vehicle of the group running smoothly and possess the best tools to haul it out of the ditch is the brain trust of Wool Hat & Woolhead, Inc. - Mike and Micky!

The Troublemakers:

Davy & Peter

The youngest and youngest-at-heart members of the Monkees are the catalysts of most of the on-screen action, and oddly enough, streetwise Davy and idealist Peter appear to have the closest rapport. Their energy together on stage is a visible show of team spirit, but off-stage, their individual weaknesses can constitute a real threat to the continuation of the happy quartet or their goals as a band.

Look out when Davy gets that twinkle in his eye when it lights upon a pretty, appealing girl or when his susceptible heart is moved by a stranger in trouble. Take note when Peter wanders away from his friends for advice and assistance. It can only mean trouble is on the way to darken The Monkees' day!

Front Men:

Davy & Micky

This duet of dulcet songsters straight from Sweet Sixteen Sixties Heaven together encompass both the traditional and the off-beat appeal of the group to their fans, with neither one of them being completely traditional or off-beat. Davy's teen-style buoyance and boyish handsomeness is off-set by his eagerness to adopt classically-inspired show-biz stylings to their rock 'n' roll performances; Micky's unconventional adorability is enhanced by his talent for heart-and-show stopping vocals and raw energy.

When you're a no-style band, it doesn't hurt to have two different yet dynamic front men acting as the identifying personalities to double and diversify an audience's pleasure!

Best Friends:

Micky & Peter

On a couple of occasions in the program, Micky and Peter are identified as the "best friends" of the quartet, and considering the off-the-beaten-track trains of thought that possess both the guys at various times, it may be easy to understand why.

Micky's wildest ideas always have a back-up in Peter, who never hesitates in being second banana to his schemes of getting his mates out of a pinch.

When the Common Sense Duo of Mike and Davy is out of commission, stay tuned for Micky's madcap brain to go into gear with the cunning use of outrageous disguise and Peter's disabling assistance!

The Odd Couple:

Peter & Mike

Can a spaced-out Greenwich Village hippie and a cool and collected Texan share a beach pad without driving each other crazy?

It would seem impossible, but these songwriters' shared goal of bringing the jangly joy of their brand of mayhem and music to the kids acts as buffers between the men representing the level head and the child-like heart of the Monkees...with a little help from their friends.

At times Mike's glances and sighs at us hint that he doesn't know what to make of his oft-times balmy bandmate Peter, but his actions always show that he is as serious about preserving and protecting the band's heart from being broken or stolen as he is about the band's success. As a result, Peter's foibles actually act as beneficial in bringing out Mike's folksy humanity which at times is not apparent to us underneath his for the most part level-headed and calm ambition.

Common Sense:

Davy & Mike

Chances are the deeper conversations in the beach house about life and the utilization of the practical applications of common sense to achieve success over problems are being held by Davy and Mike.

The lads' combo of streetwise sensibility and southwest sagacity produce some of the finer insights into the deeper thoughts about the problems of being young and ambitious during an era and within a counterculture that promoted selfishness as well as peace and togetherness.

Yet the two levelest heads of the quartet can be expected to boost and encourage those attributes that keep the Monkees' heads above the cultural quicksand!
