Mad Mod Musical Magi
"THE MONKEES"

1966-1968

FIRST SEASON GUEST STARS!

Vocal and comedic genius Stan Freberg as the hard-hearted Mr. Daggart in "Monkee vs. Machine", one of the very best episodes!

The gent on the left is off-beat character actor Severn Darden, one of the brainiacs behind the development of Second City.

Remember this tough guy? (No, the one standing up without the glasses.) That's "Mel Sharples" himself from "Alice", Vic Tayback, who also appeared in three episodes!

It's "The Dick Van Dyke Show" star Rose Marie as "The Big Man" (?!) - gangland brain and former singing star. Rosie also starred in "Monkee Mother", one of the most heartwarming episodes of the series.

Horror film star Lon Chaney, Jr. recreates his role of Lennie from "Of Mice and Men" in "Monkees in a Ghost Town".

The bug-eyed horse doctor is power-vocal radio comedian Jerry Colonna...but is everyone sure he's looking at the right horse?

There's no Monking tough guy Harvey Lembeck...if the boys get in the way of his plans, the gangster's going to do them some serious hurt!

Borscht-belt comic and prolific veteran television actor Phil Leeds is swindling Mike out of money with the promise of making his song a hit.

Character actor and Tony-winning writer George Furth appeared twice on "The Monkees". Here he's snooty Ronnie Farnsworth dumping cold water on Peter's romantic notions for a girl they both dig!

Reta Shaw from "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" and many other television shows and movies as Mrs. Badderly, stage mother from [cuckoo!], longing to split up the group to pair Davy with her daughter!

Ubiquitous character actor Vito Scotti was not only in a "Monkees" episode, he was in "Head"! Here he plays an unscrupulous doctor - look out, Micky!

Richard "Jaws" Kiel as a monster who is to be the recipient of the Monkees' talent in an attempt to make him the first rock star created by man! (Ahem...)

"I Was Davy's Double" - that's the back of L.A. rock impresario Rodney Bingenheimer's head. Same size, similar haircut...and Rodney's first claim to fame!

She's super-sexy and she's super-silly...she's comedienne and talk show host Maureen Arthur as Ruby, the ditzy moll of Micky's "doppelgangster", Baby-Face Morales!

"M.A.S.H."ed by the Monkees - before Mike Farrell became a big star as "B.J. Hunnicutt", he did bits like this on Screen Gems T.V. productions.

He was the voice of the lovable Fred Flintstone...but Henry Corden's character of cranky landlord Mr. Babbitt is anything but friendly!

"There's no need to fear..." Wally Cox wrestles with someone in the washer trying to give him a hand with the laundry.

A new laundrymat in town. The owner is Catwoman Julie Newmar as "April Conquest". You can predict the results!

Novelty singer Doodles Weaver guarding the door to a posh country club. Not everyone is allowed in, but the lads are going to try!

Foster Brooks as a drunk (imagine that!) at a convention who's managed to pick up the wrong kind of bunnies!

Folk singer and improv wizard Hamilton Camp as the yes-man to a megalomaniacal director. (Are there any other kind?)

A real glut of teen idols in this episode - that's Bobby Sherman before his "Here Come the Brides" pop star days as surf movie star Frankie Catalina.

Stand-up comic and Tony Award nominee Godfrey Cambridge
issuing parking directives to the b
oys in Mexico.

ALSO...PARTY WITH THE MACHINERY!

Producer Bob Rafelson.

Pilot show developer Larry Tucker.

Pilot show writer turned acclaimed director Paul Mazursky!
