The Madman:

MICKY DOLENZ

"Not bad for a long-haired weirdo, huh, America?"

Mad Molly's
TEENY TINY MONKEES CHARACTER BIO

"MICKY"

His full name is:
George Michael Dolenz, Jr.

When and where he was born:
March 8, 1945
Los Angeles, California

Also known as:
"Monkee # 1"
"The Insidious Strangler"
"Locksley Mendoza",
"The Los Angeles Leopard"
"El Dolenzio"

And who's this Afro-haired weirdo?

Micky, being mad scientist, gadget-man, and local boy of the quartet, gives every indication of being a natural native to La-La Land - he's talented, ambitious, sunshine-energetic, and nuttier than a fruitcake. No ignoring the boy even though he's generally stuck in the background on his drums because he's a front-man onstage and off.

Onstage, he's a joking, skins-wailin' crooner with an ofttimes intense tenor and a funky, way-out performance style. (If you've seen his act on the "live" shows you'll know what I'm talking about...and don't touch the screen when he performs "Goin' Down", you'll burn your fingers!)

The performance doesn't end offstage, either, as Micky projects a hip, mod Bob Hope style of small screen persona - conceitedly and cockily and too often falsely sure of his appeal when faced with an apathetic beauty, freaking out when his plans in an extreme crisis misfire, and laughing in the face of peril before running like mad...because his middle name may be Danger, but his last name is Chicken.

Micky wears all the attributes of mega-Monkee madness with the same quirky ease he wears a tablecloth as a poncho. This skill as well as his being the most scientific of the group gives his flashes of melodrama and wacky ideas the aura of dead-on genius to the other three.

And it doesn't hurt that our man Micky is a master of vocal and physical disguise, and generally a good sport to boot about helping his buddies out of tricky situations...but that's usually before he starts considering reforming the group without the threatened or missing link.

In the end, though, Micky overcomes his own shortcomings to be a force behind the rescue of Davy or Peter when they get in trouble, and usually in time to favor the viewers with one last song before shuffling off to the Land Of Next Week and yet another foible for him to freak out over as he plots to construct the concept that will Save The Day!
